Strategic Planning Committee develops a vision for Lima

Jun. 22—Lima — The Lima Community Improvement Cooperation board members met Tuesday evening to discuss the developments of the Strategic Planning Committee. The meeting was held at Lima City Hall in the Council Chambers. The overall goal of this meeting was to focus on the mission, vision and values of this organization as it continues to move forward.

According to one member, a draft has been made for the vision of this committee. The members have met several times to determine a strategic plan to improve housing quality in Lima. The first meeting included an 'environmental scan' of the city of Lima and the meeting prior focused on crafting the mission and values. The LCIC looks forward to the plan becoming a reality in the coming months.

One strategic planning committee member reports the group is looking forward to developing a process and seeing the results. The LCIC would not only like to develop a plan but get feedback from residents and minority developers, while also working with various partners and churches. LCIC members report their goal is to not only focus on the safety and health of neighborhoods but also on the unique qualities and values each one holds. One member states although housing development is not the sole focus of the committee it is a priority need in our community.

The LCIC reports its mission to determine the needs of various properties and how they can be developed to improve the quality of life in the Lima Community.

Mayor Sharetta Smith said, "The strategic planning committee will continue to meet to finalize the mission vision, goals and objectives. The preliminary mission is as follows: With sensitivity to and respect for residents, architecture, and history, the Lima Community Improvement Corporation will assess, create and develop housing, economic and quality of life initiatives to improve Lima neighborhoods."

The next meeting will be held July 19, 2022, at 5 p.m.
