Stratham woman charged with drunken driving after crashing into tree in Exeter

EXETER — A Stratham woman is facing a drunken driving charge after she allegedly crashed a vehicle into a tree early Monday morning.

Exeter police and fire responded to the single-car accident on Newfields Road at approximately 12:30 a.m.When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a severely damaged 2014 Ford Focus on its side, off of the roadway. The vehicle, believed to have been traveling south, had struck a tree and a large boulder, according to police.

Exeter Police Chief Stephan Poulin said officers investigating the crash determined there was probable cause to arrest the driver of the vehicle for driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver, Sarah Arseneau, 21, was transported by Exeter Fire and Rescue to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where she was released on personal recognizance bail.

Newfields Road was closed for a brief period of time during the investigation. New England Truck Center removed the vehicle and New Hampshire State Police assisted on the scene.
