HOLLAND — The season for sweet, fresh strawberries has arrived. In addition to purchasing berries at the Holland Farmers Market and Bowerman Blueberries, locals can pick berries for themselves in strawberry patches across town.

Here's three to consider:

Crisp Country Acres

Address: 5888 120th Ave. in Holland

Hours: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays

Updates: facebook.com/crispcountryacres

Cost: $3.50 a pound

Visitors to Crisp Country Acres are urged to check online before visiting, as weather and stock can affect hours. Upon arrival, visit the farm store for directions. Pickers are welcome to bring their own containers, but should have them weighed before heading to the strawberry patch. Bring sunscreen, water and appropriate shoes, and make sure to come back in the fall to pick your own vegetables.

Visser Farms

Address: 7200 112th Ave. in Holland

Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays-Fridays and 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays

Updates: facebook.com/visserfarms

Price: $4.50 a quart

No appointment is necessary to pick strawberries at Visser Farms, but visitors are still encouraged to check social media for the latest updates. Select berries that are red, ripe and firm, and be prepared to get dirty. Visser recommends picking berries with tops.

"When tops are removed, they tend to lose their vitamin content and get waterlogged when rinsed," the business' website reads. "Please try to pick every ripe berry from each plant rather than jumping from plant to plant and row to row."
