We'll get a Season 2 of "American Rust" after all.

Amazon Freevee, a free ad-supported, video on-demand service, ordered a second season of the gritty crime drama starring Jeff Daniels as a Fayette County, Pa., police chief.

The show's initial season, broadcast in late 2021 on Showtime, included scenes with Daniels in his office, located in the former Ambridge borough building on Merchant Street. It became a common sight for Ambridge-ites seeing police cars parked around town, bearing the name of the show's fictional town, Buell.

Showtime announced last January "American Rust" had been canceled.

The series, co-starring Maura Tierney, also shot footage in the Monongahela Valley.

In a statement published in Variety and Deadline, lead star Daniels said, "“I’m grateful to Amazon Freevee for giving us the chance to make Season Two of 'American Rust.' Set inside a struggling American small town, our authentic, realistically told story is built for streaming. The movies they don’t make anymore are being made as series at places like Amazon Freevee. It’s where I want to be.”

Amazon Freevee (formerly IMDb TV) did not specify when or where filming would begin.

Ambridge Manager Mario Leone said Friday he has not been contacted about any future filming plans in the borough.
