Street dogs find homes thanks to Mexican army

These stray dogs were rescued by the Mexican army

Location: Zumpango de Ocampo, Mexico

The Doggies of Santa Lucia shelter was set up in an unoccupied kindergarten building

to provide up to 50 dogs with medical attention, food and shelter

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) SECOND LIEUTENANT VETERINARIAN, CARLA MEDELLIN, SAYING:

"The shelter's objective is to give the dogs a temporary home and to adapt them to life with humans and other dogs so they can be adopted by a family. In that adoption process, the Mexican army will give medicine if it's necessary, surgery for an injury, if they need surgery we will do it, we sterilize the dogs, we give them all of their vaccine shots."
