Streetsboro City Council recently got some updates on the city's planned community center, including a closer look at some of the amenities added to the $3.1 million facility.

Levelheads CEO Christopher Trotta and his staff unveiled some of the amenities that are part of the tentative design of the building, including a fire pit behind the building, a flagpole in front and a bench at the building entrance.

Council also met representatives from Panzica Construction, who told them about the need to order some materials early because they could take 30 weeks or more to arrive.

"I think you are all going to be as excited about this as we are," Mayor Glenn Broska said.

Trotta said some parts of the project will get started immediately. Trees that need to be removed to make way for the building must be taken out by March 15 and cannot be removed later because they become a habitat for bats in the spring.

Drawings will be finished by February, he said.

Mark Panzica of Panzica Construction outlined the "two GMP process," which stands for guaranteed minimum price. The process means that "long lead time" items, as well as early design, will be done first, while detailed construction documents and the remainder of the project would wait.

Council members praised the updated drawings.

"This looks great," Councilwoman Julie Field said. "I can tell you put a lot of thought into this."

The project is still projected to fall within the $3.1 million budget. Groundbreaking is expected in the spring, with construction expected to wrap up around early 2024.

Previously, Streetsboro had envisioned a "City Complex" hat was to include a new city hall, a field house and splash pad near the new fire station on state Route 43, where the former city hall was located. But since then, the city decided to move the community center to the City Park property off Kirby Lane.

The parks department, including the senior center, have been housed from a building on state Route 43 since 2018, where the department moved when the old city building was demolished. The department recently moved to a temporary space at the Streetsboro schools annex until the community center is built.
