Streetsboro internet café accused of running illegal gambling operation

The Portage County sheriff's drug and violent crime unit and SWAT team executed a search warrant at a Streetsboro internet café suspected of operating as an "illegal gambling establishment" on Wednesday, the sheriff's office said in a media release posted on Facebook Thursday morning.

The sheriff's office did not identify the business, other than it is on state Route 14, nor did it respond immediately to requests for additional information.

Streetsboro Police Lt. Rich Polivka said the sheriff's office notified the police department on Wednesday that it would be conducting some kind of operation at LinDee's Internet Café on state Route 14. Polivka, however, said he did not have any additional information.

"They notified us as a safety measure that they were going to be doing something over there," he said.

The media release says the search followed a four-month investigation. Several individuals were found inside the business at the time. They were released pending additional investigation.

Evidence found at the scene included U.S. currency, miscellaneous paperwork and other items "associated with illegal gambling and games of chance," said the release.

The drug and violent crime unit will consult with the Portage County Prosecutor's Office on potential charges.

Online searches for a phone number for LinDee's Internet Café were unsuccessful.
