Stretch of Markland now open after closure

Oct. 24—A stretch of Markland Avenue on the city's west side is now back open to traffic after a six-month closure.

West Markland Avenue, between Park Avenue and Millbrook Lane, is now open to vehicle traffic, the city announced Tuesday.

That stretch of Markland Avenue had been closed since April to allow the city to install a large pipe under Markland Avenue as part of the construction of a new peak excess flow treatment facility being built near the city's current wastewater treatment plant.

The new peak excess flow treatment facility will better prevent combined sewer overflow from being dumped into city's waterways during times of heavy rainfalls.
