What did you miss?

In short, not a lot. With Nigel Harmon's painful sounding rib injury forcing him out of the show, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly resort to filling 40 minutes of primetime TV.

The lack of results means there is more time for the remaining contestants to speak with each detailing their two dances for next week's all-important semi-finals.

Bobby Brazier will be taking on a quickstep and the paso doble while Ellie Leach is tackling a cha cha cha.

Former tennis star Annabel Croft will be dancing a Viennese waltz and a salsa, the latter of which she looked less than delighted about.

Series standout Layton Williams, fresh off the first 40 score of the year is daring to be great by committing to two very different dances in the rumba and Charleston.

What, how, and why?

Harmon's injury is still the biggest talking point of the weekend as the fan favourite bows out of the competition just a week before the semi-final, likely to the relief of Annabel and Bobby.

Harmon apparently injured his ribs falling off a platform and in his witty way, said: “As I flew, I was Peter Pan. As I landed, I was in A&E. I’ve done something to my ribs, basically, and it’s quite painful. I’m a little bit high on painkillers but I’m having a lovely time!”

He also paid a point of thanking his professional partner Katya Jones who had worked hard to make him a contender.

The former EastEnders star said: “The only reason I’m standing here is because of all the work you’ve put into me. You turn up every day with hundreds of great ideas. You challenge me, push me, support me, make me laugh. I knew you’d do extraordinary things on the floor with choreography and creativity, but most of all you’re just part of me now.”

What else happened on Strictly?

The results show that was not a results show ended up being a particularly flash recap of Saturday night's events with several reminders that this week's points all carry over to next week's semi-final.

Joss Stone was the musical guest, singing This Time from the musical adaptation of The Time Traveller's Wife which is running in the West End until the Spring. Stone composed the soundtrack for the musical alongside Eurythmics legend Dave Stewart.

Billie Piper also made a guest appearance in video form, sending a message of support to Layton which he called "special".

Bear Grylls, from somewhere very dark, firmly plants his flag behind Annabel Croft (who is still in green face paint) as his favourite in his own video clip.

Will we be back for more?

With Nigel Harmon's rib injury forcing him onto the sidelines, the remaining four couples will dance it out in next week's semi-final for a shot at winning the competition.

A dramatic twist so late in the series is unheard of in Strictly history and the final four couples all have a shot to make the grand final as they dance twice to earn their keep.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One next Saturday at 7:35
