Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a health update after undergoing surgery amid her breast cancer treatment.

The 32-year-old announced she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer last month after discovering a lump on her breast in April while preparing to go on her honeymoon in the Maldives with husband Ben Jones.

And on Wednesday the dancer revealed that she was in hospital undergoing treatment and said that she’s “more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor”.

After her operation, Dowden took to her Instagram Story to update her social media followers about her treatment and revealed that her surgery had been successful.

She wrote: “Surgery went well. Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been so utterly amazing and looking after me.

“Very sore but focusing on the positives they said the surgery went well! Thanks for all the support and messages.”

Ahead of going under the knife, the BBC star shared a selfie from her hospital bed and said that she was determined to return to the Strictly dance floor.

She captioned the post: “Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor.”

After sharing her sentiments, the ballroom pro was inundated with well wishes from fans and her Strictly co-stars.

Strictly pro Karen Hauer commented: “Love you you got this” while former It Takes Two host Zoe Ball penned: “huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy.”

Dowden’s former Strictly partner Tom Fletcher added: “Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you. X”

Last month, the Caerphilly-born star, who joined the BBC dance competition show in 2017, shared her cancer diagnosis on Instagram, telling fans that she is “determined” to return to the dance floor as soon as she can.

She wrote: “Hey all, I’ve got some news which isn’t easy to share. I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.”

Dowden added a pink love heart, signing off with “Welsh love Amy” with a kiss.
