Former Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has reportedly formed a boy band with Hollyoaks star Jeremy Edwards for Celebrity X Factor.

The pair, who are long-time friends, will attempt to impress Simon Cowell and his fellow judges in the brand new singing contest show.

According to The Sun, the duo’s decision to form a boy band initially started out as a novelty idea, but ended up enjoying the experience and are confident they can make an impression on the show.

The publication also claims that Cole and Edwards have filmed their first scenes.

The winner of the contest will be given a record deal, with the opportunity to land a Christmas number one.

Cole was previously one of the best-known professional dancers on Strictly for 15 series, but he was axed from the ITV show in 2018 after repeatedly clashing with the judges.

Meanwhile, Edwards starred as Kurt Benson in Hollyoaks from 1994 to 1999, before joining Hollyoaks in 1999 and staying until 2003. He currently stars in CBBC drama Millie Inbetween.

The celebrity edition of The X Factor is set to air alongside an all-star version of the show, which will see the return of former winners, including Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward.

Speaking to The Mirror, X Factor’s Louis Walsh recently revealed that the judges have no idea who will be joining the celebrity edition of the show, as the producers want it to be a surprise for them, too.

"We haven't been told who the celebrities are, I've just read bits in the papers. They want it to be a surprise to us when they walk out.

"It's going to be great, and then we do the 'best of' all in one week, all the winners are coming back. Leona's coming back, Alexandra, Shayne, they're all coming back."
