Strictly Come Dancing has confirmed that Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice will miss this weekend's live show.

Revealing the news on Friday's episode (October 20) of Strictly: It Takes Two, presenter Janette Manrara said that Amanda wouldn't be dancing "due to medical reasons."

"We have some breaking news," Janette began. "Unfortunately, due to medical reasons, Amanda will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

"Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week," she continued, before wishing Amanda a speedy recovery. "We hope you get well soon my love! Sending you all the best wishes."

Amanda and Giovanni's absence will surely be felt on tomorrow's live show. The pair have been one of the most consistently high-scoring couples over the series so far.

Last week, the couple took to the Strictly ballroom with a Foxtrot to Fleetwood Mac's 'Everywhere', which scored them an impressive 31 points. They found themselves in joint fourth place on the leaderboard, alongside Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington.

The judges were quick to praise Amanda on her "memorable" performance. "Your head position is beautiful, never change it please," said Anton Du Beke, adding: "You foxtrotted that thing to death!"

Strictly's resident tough judge Craig Revel Horwood heaped praise on the couple. "You have magnificent musicality," he said. "That frame was absolutely gorgeous!"

News of Amanda missing this weekend's live show comes after fellow Strictly star Layton Williams revealed he is avoiding online comments after receiving online abuse.

The Bad Education actor spoke out about the negative comments he'd received regarding his same-sex pairing, costume choices and his theatre school background.

"I've been trying to protect myself and not read as much, and truly think about the bigger picture," he said to The Guardian. He also shared how touched he's been after receiving heartwarming messages.

"The messages of love are overwhelming but as is the low key trolling."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Tickets for Strictly's 2024 live arena tour are available now.
