Former Strictly Come Dancing star Tyler West has branded himself a "proud boyfriend" after his girlfriend and fellow Strictly star Molly Rainford landed herself a role in EastEnders.

Molly is joining the BBC One soap as part of a new family heading to Albert Square, the Knights. The actor — who will be playing the youngest member of the family, Anna Knight — will be joined by Doctor Who and Arrow star Colin Salmon, Absolutely Fabulous actress Harriet Thorpe and 2.0 Lucy's Francesca Henry to make up the brood.

Tyler, who met Molly on Strictly last year before a romance sparked between the pair, expressed his pride in his partner for landing the new role.

Appearing on Wednesday's (March 29) episode of Lorraine, Tyler said: "I tell you what, it's the hardest secret I've ever had to keep in my life. It was, genuinely!"

"I'm a very proud boyfriend today, Lorraine, very proud boyfriend."

Tyler also said that he will definitely be heading to Walford in order to support his girlfriend. "I will be on the Square, don't worry, ultimate fanboy!" he shared.

The Knights will be introduced into the soap in summer as the family running the Queen Vic alongside Linda Carter, the BBC has announced.

Previously speaking about joining the soap, singer and TV presenter Molly shared: "I'm SUPER excited to be joining the cast of EastEnders. It's such an iconic show which myself and my family love, so it's an honour to bring the character Anna Knight to life who is set to stir up drama upon her arrival.

"I've already met a few familiar faces from my time on Strictly and I can't wait to meet and be a part of the EastEnders family."

Prey For The Devil's Colin also said he was "thrilled" to be taking on the role of George Knight.

"I’m excited to explore the character of George, a true East End gentleman having been born in the East End myself. I have a great affinity and love for the show and I look forward to being part of the great legacy."

Molly's on-screen sister Francesca added: "I wish I could tell younger me that one day I would be joining the show that I watched religiously every night with my Grandma. It's very surreal and a true privilege to be trusted to bring Gina to the Square, and to be a part of such an exciting, tight-knit new family."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
