The Chase: Celebrity Special very nearly welcomed its first-ever marriage proposal over the weekend.

Couple Max George and Maisie Smith, who'd both previously competed in Strictly Come Dancing, were taking part in the iconic gameshow together. However, host Bradley Walsh wasn't aware that they were in a relationship.

"So you've known each other before this, then?" Bradley asked.

The Wanted's Max jokingly replying before confirming their romance: "Yeah, we know each other a little bit..."

"I didn't know, I'm so sorry! So when's the big day?" the presenter said.

Reaching into his pocket, the singer said: "Funny you mention it..." before pulling out nothing but air, leaving wide-eyed EastEnders star Maisie to fan herself.

An amused Bradley proceeded to laugh over how the joke had left her "hot and sweaty".

Back in March, Maisie addressed concerns from the public over her and Max's 13-year age gap.

"If it wasn't that, it would be something else," she told The Sun. "People don't understand what goes on behind closed doors in a relationship, and I think they also forget that I'm a consenting 21-year-old woman who's actually been working longer than Max!

"I don't notice the age difference and neither do my friends or family.

"My mum Julia is the one who reads through all the comments. I got a message from her yesterday, saying: 'Just ignore them, you two were made for each other'."

Earlier this month, Maisie appeared to confirm that she will star in gangster movie Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire, alongside Alan Ford and Adam Deacon.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV.
