Ukraine has operatives that can strike the enemy from deep within Russian territory, according to Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) head, Kyrylo Budanov, speaking in an interview with the War Zone.

His comments come after two Russian Il-76 transport planes were destroyed and two more were damaged at an airbase in Pskov, nearly 1,000km away from Ukraine’s capital of Kyiv.

"We are working from the territory of Russia," Budanov said, without clarifying whether the strike on Pskov airbase was directly carried out by his operatives.

The War Zone has claimed that it had received video from an infrared camera of one of the drones used in the attack on Pskov, showcasing one of the planes getting hit.

The War Zone concluded that its footage was taken from drones that were directly involved in the attack, "unless the source of the image was acting as a surveillance drone to record the strike, which seems unlikely."

This would be consistent with Budanov's statement that the air base was attacked from Russian territory and not with the help of long-range autonomous drones, the War Zone said.

The 334th Military Transport Aviation Regiment is stationed at Pskov Air Base, a unit that is believed to consist of 20 Il-76 aircraft. The loss of 25% of its inventory would represent a significant blow to its combat viability.
