Strikers outside the Marysville National Parts Distribution Center said an altercation happened Tuesday between members and a truck driver making a delivery to the plant.

According to Ron Scott Jr., president of the United Auto Workers local 375 chapter, a truck hit a union member and an international UAW representative while attempting to drive past the picket line to make a delivery.

Neither of the people were seriously injured, according to Scott. He said an altercation occurred between union members and the driver that resulted in Marysville Police Department officers being called to the scene around 1 p.m.

Sgt. Curtis Babb with the Marysville Police Department said officers reviewed video of the incident and that the accusation of a trucker hitting union members was "exaggerated," but would not go into further details about the incident. No arrests were made.

Lt. John Stover previously said Monday that officers had been called out multiple times to the plant over the weekend in response to calls reporting traffic disruptions. Stover said there was no evidence of a crime by any of the strikers and no arrests had been made or tickets written.

Babb said officers had been called out to the plant several times Tuesday and had talked with union members at the police station.

"Emotions did get high today, but this has been mostly a peaceful protest," Babb said. "We've been working with both sides and they've been very respectful."

Scott said trucks had been driving past strikers all weekend.

Scott and other strikers who refused to give their names said they were frustrated the truck drivers were not respecting the strike.

"We're fighting out here for job security and for the future of this plant," Scott said.

The striking plant workers accused the truck drivers of crossing the picket line, yelling "Shame on you," at those who attempted to enter the plant. Other truck drivers stopped on Huron Boulevard outside the plant before continuing on. Scott said one of the drivers told him their employer had left it up to drivers individually whether or not to make deliveries to the distribution center while workers are on strike.

Workers at the Marysville National Parts Distribution Center walked off the job Friday as part of a nationwide strike by UAW members at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis after contract negotiations between the automakers and UAW President Shawn Fain did not lead to an agreement.
