At first, the U.S. President was spotted at a memorial to the Ukrainian heroes who died in the war with Russia in the center of Kyiv.

Biden also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife Olena in Mariinskyi Palace, the presidential official residence, for talks and a joint briefing.

This is the first visit of the U.S. President to Ukraine since 2008, when George Bush Jr. paid a visit to Kyiv. Barak Obama didn't visit Ukraine even once during his two presidential terms, nor did his successor, Donald Trump. Prior to them, George H.W. Bush visited Kyiv in August 1991, and Bill Clinton in 2000.

Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba called Biden's visit "a historical one" and said that both presidents were happy with the talks. The minister also called the visit "the victory of Ukrainians and President Zelenskyy".

"It was done against all odds for the sake of the victory of Ukraine and the entire free world,” he emphasized.

“A clear signal to the swamps – no one is afraid of you!"
