String Quartet Performs for Audience of Plants in Barcelona Opera House
Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house reopened on June 22 to an audience of plants.
The ‘Concierto para el bioceno’ was envisioned by conceptual artist Eugenio Ampudia and made possible by local nurseries that donated the plants to fill the 2,292-seat auditorium, the opera house said.
“After a strange, painful period,” the Liceu Opera said, the artistic collaboration between Ampudia and Blanca de la Torre, curator of the Galería Max Estrella, offered listeners a “different perspective for our return to activity, a perspective that brings us closer to something as essential as our relationship with nature.”
The string quartet, consisting of Yana Tsanova and Oleg Shport on violin, Claire Bobij on viola, and Guillaume Terrail on cello, performed Puccini’s ‘Cristantemi.’
