Stroh-Page named Tallahassee Democrat news director

The Tallahassee Democrat has hired Caitlyn Stroh-Page to be its news director.

Stroh-Page was born in Tallahassee, is a graduate of the University of Georgia and since March 2020 has served as executive editor for the Athens Banner-Herald, also a Gannett newspaper.

During her time at the Banner-Herald, Caitlyn led a newsroom during major news events including the COVID-19 pandemic, social justice protests and a UGA football national championship.

"Her approach to news, audience and editing is a genetic match for this newsroom," Democrat editor William Hatfield said. "When I first met her about five months ago, she exclaimed that she knew the Tallahassee Democrat jingle from years gone by. And from that moment as I got to know her, I’ve been trying to get her back home."

Stroh-Page previously worked in Kentucky for the Lexington Herald-Leader, where she started as a digital producer and videographer, winning state and national awards for social media projects and documentary video work. Before moving to Kentucky — and finding a real love for bourbon — she began her career at The (Macon) Telegraph in Macon, Ga.

Stroh-Page is an avid user and promoter of non-traditional news platforms such as Instagram, NextDoor and Facebook Groups. Additionally, Stroh-Page has experience in nonprofit elements of the news business. During her time in Athens, Report for America, a nonprofit organization which partners with local news organizations to increase coverage, placed three corps members in her newsroom.

"I am delighted to return to Tallahassee and become reacquainted with all the city has to offer," Stroh-Page said. "Local news is paramount to every community, and I look forward to investing in and working for our readers."

Stroh-Page is married to Fletcher Page, who is the USA TODAY NETWORK Georgia Group sports editor. Together, they have a 3-month-old daughter named Bizzy and two miniature Australian Shepherds, Bunk and Mate.

Stroh-Page spent her elementary years in Tallahassee, attending Gilchrist Elementary, before moving to Thomasville, Ga. She frequently returned to Tallahassee to eat at Momo's Pizza, watch FSU volleyball matches and bike on the St. Marks Trail. Her fondest memory of Tallahassee is running her first marathon and finishing the final 6.2 miles with her grandfather.

Her parents and grandparents currently live in Thomasville, Georgia. Her mom is a Tallahassee Community College graduate and works as nurse midwife at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Her dad graduated from Florida A&M University and is an occupational therapist in Moultrie, Ga.

Stroh-Page starts at the Democrat on Monday, Sept. 19. She will work virtually at first as her family relocates to the capital city.
