Strong state tennis tournaments for Zeeland West, Holland, Holland Christian, West Ottawa, Hamilton, Zeeland East

The Zeeland West boys tennis team finished ninth at the Division 3 state tournament.

The Dux scored nine points. Holland Christian finished 12th with seven points and Holland was 13th with six . Hamilton was 19th with three and Zeeland East was tied for 21st with one.

Ann Arbor Greenhills won with 35.

ZEELAND WEST

Zeeland West's Ethan Haskill won his first match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4 over Avondale's Saravana Anbarasu, then lost to Stevensville Lakeshore's Landon Coates, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, Zeeland West's Nick Lloyd won his first match, defeating Mason's Jayden Miller 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, then lost to Chelsea's Mason Strach, 6-2, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Zeeland West's James Stewart had a bye, then lost to Ludington's Jack Stidham, 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 4, Zeeland West's Tyler Dykstra had a bye, then defeated Cadillac's Matt Erickson 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Country Day's Luke Zhang, 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

At No. 1 doubles, Simon Moore and Landen Mosbauer had a bye, then lost 6-4, 6-2 to Sturgis.

At No. 2 doubles, Luke Kaynor and Luke Bosma beat Stevensville Lakeshore 6-0, 6-2, then Chelsea 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals, losing to East Grand Rapids, 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 3, Diego Mendoza and Max Settlemyre had a bye, then defeated Ludington 6-4, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals, losing to East Grand Rapids, 6-1, 7-5.

At No. 4, Quinn Willette and Mikey Fuller defeated Stevensville Lakeshore, 6-2, 6-3, then lost to Country Day 6-4, 6-0.

HOLLAND CHRISTIAN

Holland Christian's Tucker Heneghan defeated Ionia's Sam Eppler 6-2, 7-6, then Chelsea's Peter Mourad 6-4, 7-6(5) before beind defeated in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-21 to Ann Arbor Greenhills' Chakor Rajendra.

At No. 2 singles, Holland Christian's Leif Bauman had a bye, then lost to Stevensville Lakeshore's Spencer Coates, 6-2, 6-1.

At No. 3, Holland Christian's Josh Dawson beat Mason's Cooper Cross 6-1, 6-0, then lost to Detroit Country Day's Clay Hartje, 6-0, 6-4.

At No. 4, Holland Christian's Dylan Becksvoort beat Mason's Ethan Rice, 6-2, 6-2 before falling in the second round to Parma Western's Caleb Bahlau, 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Simon Langejans and Henry Langejans had a bye then defeated Stevensville Lakeshore, 6-3, 6-3, before losing to Cranbrook Kingswood 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

At No. 2 doubles, Mitchell Boerman and Tryg Tanis had a bye, then lost to Sturgis, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 3 doubles, Jackson Engbers and Tyler Hemmeke beat St. Clair 6-2, 6-2, then lost to Country Day, 6-2, 7-5.

At No. 4, Hayden Bauman and Evan Disselkoen had a bye, then lost to East Grand Rapids, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round.

HOLLAND

Holland's No. 4 singles player James Baer had a bye, then beat DeWitt's Dominic Rose, 6-2, 6-1 before losing to Cranbrook Kingswood's Amaan Khan, 6-1, 6-0, in the quarterfinals.

Holland's Aiden Sin lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Fowlerville's Lucas Anderson in the first round at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Angrew Lubbers lost 6-0, 7-5 to Parma Western's Ryan Perkin in the first round. Graham VanFaasen lost in the first round at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1 to Sturgis' Aiden Whitehead.

At No. 1 doubles, Holland's Sam Payne and Elliot Wehrmeyer beat Fowlerfille 6-3, 6-1 in the first round, then lost to Chelsea 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in the second round.

At No. 2 doubles, Emmett Book and Oscar Miller defeated Avondale 6-1, 7-6(9) in the first round then lost 6-1, 6-2 to Greenhills.

At No. 3, Connor Huizinga and Willem Evenson beat Sturgis 6-2, 6-1 then lost to Greenhills, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 4 doubles, Harper Prutch and Owen Baer defeated Ludington 6-1, 6-0 then lost to Greenhills, 6-1, 6-1.

HAMILTON

Hamilton's Mason Blauwkamp defeated Ludington's Charles Kolb 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1, then lost to St. Clair's Michael Mascarin, 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Hamilton's Jackson Miller won his first--round match 6-3, 6-3 over Cadillac's Henry Schmittdiel before losing to Greenhills' Rishi Verma, 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 3, Liam Kelley lost 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1 to Parma Western's Noah McCollumn in the first round. At No. 4, Seth Lappinga lost to Petoskey's Collin Brantly, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.

At No. 1 doubles, Joshua Bush and Evan Talsma lost 6-2, 6-3 to St. Clair in the first round. At No. 2, Reece Carlson and Aiden Hamlin lost to Ludington, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

At No. 3, Jacob DeFout and Charlie Dozeman beat Haslett 6-4, 6-3 then lost to Crandbrook Kingswood, 6-1, 6-1.

At No. 4, Colin Hamlin and Riley Jipping lost in the first round, 6-3, 6-3 to Forest Hills Eastern.

ZEELAND EAST

Zeeland East's Brady Schanski qualified for state as an indiviual at No. 1 singles. He won his first match 6-2, ret., over East Grand Rapids' Andrew Owings, then was defeated in the second round by Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood's Owen DeMuth, 6-1, 6-0.

DIVISION 1: WEST OTTAWA

The West Ottawa boys tennis team finished 14th at the Division 1 state tournament on Friday and Saturday at Hope College and Holland.

The Panthers scored seven points. Northvilel and Bloomfield Hills tied for the championship with 20 points apiece.

West Ottawa's Elliot Dozeman defeated Port Huron's Charley Dunkel 6-2, 6-2 in the first round before losing in the second round to Troy's Derek Blackwell, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Traiden Bethke defeated Salem's Vidvath Vasudevan 6-1, 6-1 then lost to Rochester's Chad Anderson, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 3 singles, Trevyn Bethke was defeated by Ann Arbor Huron's Kevin Joo, 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 4 singles, Drew Rothstein defeated Troy Athens' Sohan Aitharaju 6-1, 6-3 in the first round then was defeated by Rochester Adams' Owen Dong, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Liam Herweyer and Jack O'Brien had a bye, then defeated Salem, 6-4, 6-0 then lost to Bloomfield Hills in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Jake Bloemers and Cody Schurman had a bye then lost to Ann Arbor Huron 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

At No. 3 doubles, Brody Ruby and Brayden Goodwin beat Holt 6-0, 6-0 in the first round then lost to Troy, 7-5, 6-2 in the second round.

At No. 4 doubles, Max McCormick and Landon Meyer defeated Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-1 in the first round, then lost 6-1, 6-0 to Brother Rice.
