Mountain showers and thunderstorms will soon make their way to portions of the Sacramento Valley with heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s between a 20% and 40% chance wet weather will develop early Monday afternoon in the Sierra Nevada and then quickly drift to parts of northern and central Sacramento Valley.

Depending on where you are, the thunderstorms could be strong. The National Weather Service predicts stronger showers in the foothills and the Sierra.

If you see lightning, shelter indoors or inside a closed car.

Wet weather in the Sacramento Valley

As of Monday morning, there’s a chance of thunderstorms in cities including Redding, Chico, Yuba City and Reno. Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto and Vacaville are in the clear — for storms.

But that doesn’t mean there will be clear skies.

In Sacramento, there’s a 20% chance of slight showers late Monday night with winds between 10 mph and 15 mph and gusts as high as 20 mph.

Weather in Modesto is forecast to be similar with 30% chance of showers between 11 p.m. Monday and 2 a.m. Tuesday. Winds are forecast to whip between 7 mph and 13 mph coupled with gusts as high as 18 mph.
