Strong Wind from Hurricane Delta Uproots Tree Onto Power Lines

Hurricane Delta uprooted a tree near homes in Rayne, Louisiana, as it tore through the area on October 9. Local resident Elizabeth Fachan recorded this footage and originally posted it to Instagram.

The footage shows the roots lifting from the ground as the tree falls onto the power lines and sprawls across the road.

“I’ve been through hurricanes my whole life but can never remember one that felt like this,” Fachan said. “The wind was extremely strong!”

The National Hurricane Center reported that Delta made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane at around 6.00 pm CDT, warning of “damaging winds and a life-threatening storm surge" across southern Louisiana.

Governor John Bel Edwards on October 7 declared a State of Emergency in anticipation of the storm.
