Structure collapses in Salt Lake, trapping 2 men

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two people have been hospitalized in Salt Lake City after a structure collapsed Monday — striking and trapping them underneath.

The structure, a detached shed/garage under construction located near 1390 S 900 E, tipped and collapsed just before 3 p.m., the Salt Lake City Fire Department said. It was roughly 15ft by 15ft and one story, “so a very small structure.”

The structure struck one construction worker and trapped another underneath as it collapsed, fire officials said. The man who was struck was reportedly able to get out from underneath before fire crews arrived, but the other man remained trapped under the center of the structure.

The fire department cut a hole in the roof for the man to crawl out of, and the two were taken to the hospital to receive care for minor injuries.
