Struggling to stick to your New Year's resolution? ABQ libraries have resources to help

Jan. 4—Many people use the new year to start new healthier habits; saving money, learning new languages, reading more and so on. But as the year goes on, it gets harder to stick to these resolutions.

The Albuquerque Public Library is here to help, offering a list of free resources such software training, language learning tools and financial investment tools and career training resources.

The library also hosts events throughout the year such as baby storytime, book groups, a DNA research group and drop-in crafts.

Learn something new

LinkedIn Learning offers business, software, technology and creative skills. The online library offers training courses in video format. Software covered includes Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Avid, Corel and Microsoft to name a few.

Pronunciator is a free language learning tool offering 315 languages with personalized courses, movies and chat. This resource is available on desktop computers and mobile devices.

LearningExpress Library offers educational resources ranging from career preparation and job accelerators to basic computer skills and even elementary educator resources. There are even courses in Spanish.

The Chilton Library offers full auto repair manuals with diagrams, pictures and videos to make car repairs easier for do-it-yourself car owners.

The Culinary Arts Collection offers major cooking and nutrition magazines, culinary journals and some Delmar reference titles, creating a database of thousands of searchable recipes, restaurant reviews and industry information.

Get savvy with your money

Consumer reports offers more than 9,000 ratings and reviews for products and services, so you can do research before spending money. Sign in by using your library card.

Morningstar offers data on more than 14,000 stocks, almost 25,000 mutual funds, 1,500 exchange-traded funds and 700 closed-end funds. This tool offers portolio analysis, investment options education and up-to-date financial news and commentary.

Ditch streaming services for free alternatives

If you like Audible, check out Hoopla, OverDrive, NoveList Plus, PressReader and Libby. All you need is your library card to use these apps, gaining access to thousands of audiobooks, e-books, magazines, movies and TV shows.

If you like music streaming apps such as Spotify or YouTube music, check out Freegal, which offers thousands of free songs through the public library.

Career Guidance

JobNow provides users with practical tools to land a job. The resource offers live interview coaching, resume labs and career resources such as career assessments, and recommended websites for job applications and career discovery. All you need to access this resource is a library card.

The Vocations & Careers Collection offers contents from nearly 400 publications from general career guides to highly specialized industry journals.

Get Healthy

MedlinePlus is the National Institutes of Health's website, which is produced by the National Library of Medicine. Learn about diseases, conditions and wellness issues as well as finding new healthy recipes.

Consumer Health Complete provides content for all areas of health and wellness and is available in 27 different languages. Use your library card to access this resource.
