STUARTS DRAFT — Stuarts Draft High School announced its production of "Footloose" this Thursday through Sunday, March 9-12.

"This fun and touching story of the power of music and acceptance will have you dancing in the aisles," a press release said. "Based on the 1984 smash-hit movie of the same name, this high energy, 1980's musical follows city kid Ren McCormack after he and his mother, Ethel, move to the small town of Bomont."

Ah, but there's trouble in Bomont, where dancing is outlawed by the town authority, Reverend Shaw Moore.

"Slowly, Ren falls in love with the reverend's spirited daughter, Ariel Moore, and together with the support of their friends, jokester Willard Hewitt and precocious Rusty, they force Bomont to face its past tragedies and rebuild its community," the release said. "This show deals with ideas of right and wrong, loss and redemption, family and friendship."

The stage adaptation is by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie, music is by Tom Snow, Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman, and lyrics are by Dean Pitchford. Songs include “Let’s Hear it for the Boy”, “Almost Paradise”, “Holding out for a Hero”, “Still Rocking”, and "Mama Says”.

Stuarts Draft's production of "Footloose" is directed by Amy Neal Bussey, with musical direction by Katie Glydewell, and choreography by Kayla Chonoles.

It stars TJ Barnard as Ren McCormakc, Olivia Staruch as Ariel Moore, Isaac Martin as Reverend Moore, Wyatt Bussey as Willard Hewitt, Alandra Nice as Rusty, Cameron Lindley as Vi Moore, and Devin Erbaugh as Ethel McCormack. The cast is rounded out by more than fifty students in the cast, crew, and orchestra pit.

Ticket prices are $15 for premium seats, $12 for adults, and $10 for students. Show times are Thursday, March 10 – Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 13 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available online at sdhstheatre.ludus.com. Call the high school at (540) 946-7600 for more information.
