What stuck out from the Bryce Harper mic'd up experience originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

You may have missed it over the weekend but Bryce Harper was mic’d up at Phillies camp. These segments always risk coming across overly contrived because the player knows he’s being recorded, but Harper seemed to be pretty natural in his element.

You can watch the 5-minute clip at the Phillies YouTube channel.

Here was what stuck out:

  • Brad Miller really does seem to be everyone’s best friend.

Bryce imitates Brad.

  • The 2021 Phillies may take a team trip to Monaco in about a decade. Remains to be seen whether Scott Kingery gets an invite.

Looks pretty chill.

  • Harper is passionate about representing his country in the Olympics. Baseball has not been an Olympic sport since 2008.

“You know how cool it would be if Jean (Segura) was able to go play for the Dominican, like we’re teammates but playing against them,” Harper said to infielder C.J. Chatham. “Could you imagine (Mike) Trout facing (Shohei) Ohtani in the Olympics? How cool is that?”

He talked about this last May, too.

  • Did Bryce cut his hair because he couldn’t compete with Travis Jankowski?

Stick around 'til the end for some BP footage of Harper, who could make his first Grapefruit League appearance of the spring this week. Thursday or Friday would make sense with the Phillies back in Clearwater. Both games will be televised on NBC Sports Philadelphia+.
