Local car audio dealership named top 50 national retailer

The Mobile Electronics Association announced the winners of the first phase of the 2023 Mobile Electronics Industry Awards recently, according to a press release from Ocala Car Audio. Locally owned Ocala Car Audio was selected as a Top 50 retailer for the 12th year in a row. In addition, owner-operator Parish Tanner was selected as a Top 20 Sales Professional for the fourth consecutive year.

Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop donates to three food pantries

Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop recently donated to three local food pantries to cover food and dinner for the holidays, according to an email from Joann McCullough, donations chairman/photographer for the thrift shop.

Sandra Marraffino, a volunteer with the Dunnellon Community Thrift Shop, recently presented a check for $1,500 to Charles Glover, director of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Helping Hands Food Pantry. This is the 27th year the organization has been in operation, and it assists 1,000 local families each year, regardless of whether they are parish members.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s raises $73,000+

Residents across Ocala participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the World Equestrian Center recently, according to a press release from the Alzheimer's Association. More than 300 people walked, raising more than $73,000 to help find a cure and provide support services to those affected by the disease. Residents can still donate to the Walk at alz.org/Ocala.

Senior Resource Foundation of Ocala provides donations

The Senior Resource Foundation of Ocala recently presented checks to Marion Senior Services and Marion County Animal Services, according to a foundation press release.

The check presentations came during the second annual Bark In The Park - A Doggy Expo on Oct. 16 at the Ocala Downtown Market.

The foundation presented a $4,000 check to Angela Kinsler, nutrition supervisor, and Glenda Thomas, outreach director, of Marion Senior Services; and a check for $4,000 to Julie Stinson, senior animal care tech, and James Sweet, animal services director, of Marion County Animal Services, the release said.

The foundation said the money was donated to their event by generous companies and individuals in the Ocala area in support of the two outstanding agencies.
