A student at Coastal Carolina University died Sunday. Who was it, how did the student die?

A student at Coastal Carolina University in Conway has died, but officials have not yet confirmed the person’s identity, though peers and family have identified the student.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed Tuesday that there is an investigation underway at the school’s request. It has been two days since the student was found dead in his dorm room.

Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said in an email she can’t confirm any information at this time.

But people on social media are claiming to know the student, including a Facebook user who said the student was his younger brother that majored in theater at CCU.

Students had been asked to avoid the area of Magnolia Hall after 6 p.m. Sunday due to police activity, according to a university Twitter post.

But after four hours, officials announced that routine operations could resume. No other details about the incident were given at that time.

Earlier this month, there were multiple deaths at an Idaho university.

Four University of Idaho students were found dead near campus, and their deaths are being ruled a homicide, according to news outlets. Authorities have not said the manner in which they died.
