CF honors retired athletic director with building renaming

The College of Central Florida District board of trustees has honored recently retired Athletic Director Bob Zelinski with a building renaming, according to a press release from CF. The former Newton Perry Aquatic Center, which will soon house athletics administration, will be named the Bob Zelinski Athletics Building.

“The board and college leadership are proud to recognize Bob for his years of service and commitment to excellence,” Jim Henningsen, CF president, said in the release. “His expectations of hard work in the classroom as well as on the field ensured that his student-athletes were prepared for life after graduation.”

Zelinski retired from CF in June after 23 years of service to the college and 51 years in the Florida College System.

Dunnellon student competes in NCAA fall athletics at Albright College

Clay Lewandowski, of Dunnellon, is a member of the NCAA Division III men's tennis team at Albright College, according to a school press release. A graduate of Dunnellon High School, Lewandowski is a sophomore business administration and sociology major at Albright.

GFWC Greater Ocala Woman's Club book bag and school supply collection

Sharon McCarron and Mary Ziegenhorn, of the GFWC Greater Ocala Woman's Club, organized a gathering to fill backpacks with school supplies that were then donated to the Ocala Domestic Abuse Center.

Nine club members met to collect backpacks and school supplies to be delivered to the center. Twenty-one backpacks were donated with a total of $700 in school supplies.

Dunnellon author releases mystery-suspense novel

Theodore Josiha Haig of Dunnellon will release his sixth mystery-suspense novel, “Baldwin Village,” in October. Haig is a native New Yorker and is a screenwriter, playwriter and novelist.

“Baldwin Village” is a novel about a Jewish community in Toronto that is friendly to U.S. deserters and draft dodgers during the Vietnam War.
