Student stabs other student, Montgomery County Public Schools says, leading to shelter in place status

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Police said students and staff members were told to shelter in place at a middle school Thursday after an assault involving two students.

The incident took place at Benjamin Banneker Middle School, located at 14800 Perrywood Dr. in Burtonsville, Md.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) said that two girls got into a fight in a classroom and one of the girls took out a box cutter. The two students both has minor cuts and were taken to the hospital for treatment in separate ambulances. Their injuries from the incident were not life-threatening.

Police said although there was a shelter-in-place status in effect soon after the stabbing, operations at the school were normal. Walkers and parents who drive were released first and then two buses at a time, according to MCPS.
