Students arrive for App State’s first-ever day of classes at Hickory campus

Monday was the first day of classes ever at Appalachian State University’s new Hickory campus.

The chancellor there said the tuition for some of the students is just $6,000 for the first year.

“A ton of money without having to pay for a dorm and housing,” student Kylee Summerlin said. “Just got everything here and drive.”

The 226,000-square-foot building provides as many as 100 majors. Appalachian State purchased the building for $1 million and then spent $8 million on renovations.
