  1. Starting on Monday, students in the School District of Philadelphia’s system can mark their gender as nonbinary. Superintendent William Hite announced the change Thursday afternoon. Students, parents, and teachers received email and text notifications of the policy update, which will allow students to update their gender without legal documentation or a parent or guardian’s approval.   2. A gunman shot a man during a carjacking in Northeast Philadelphia's Holmesburg neighborhood on Thursday morning. According to Philadelphia police, the 31-year-old driver's Dodge Charger was taken around 5:45 a.m. along the 4600 block of Strahle Street.During the confrontation, the gunman shot the driver once in the buttocks.   3. Rumors are swirling that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw may leave to become the top cop in New York City. On Wednesday, Outlaw responded to those rumors, saying that they were false. Outlaw became the first Black woman to be named commissioner of the Philadelphia police department in February of 2020 and has been linked to the same job in the Big Apple ever since Mayor-elect Eric Adams, a former police captain, promised that his first top cop would be a woman.   4. The experts at WalletHub recently took a look at various behaviors in cities across the United States to determine which cities were the most "sinful." Philadelphia broke the top 10. According to WalletHub, Philadelphia is the 6th most sinful city. (Philadelphia Patch)

  5. The Phiadelphia 76ers keep finding ways to defeat the Charlotte Hornets. Wednesday’s 110-106 victory at the Spectrum Center marked the Sixers’ 16th consecutive series win over the Hornets. It’s the longest current winning streak by an NBA team against a particular opponent. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
