Dunnellon H.S. student wins AFJROTC scholarship

Joshua Lathrop, a cadet lieutenant colonel in Air Force Junior ROTC at Dunnellon High School, has received the J-100 AFJROTC Character-in-Leadership Scholarship to attend an accredited university of his choice, according to an email from Lt. Col. Dwayne Gray, JROTC instructor for Dunnellon High.

The scholarship identifies 100 stellar high school senior cadets for their character and leadership that is embodied in AFJROTC. It affords them the opportunity to compete for an invaluable commission as a United States Air Force or Space Force officer, the email said.

The scholarship includes four years of 100% paid tuition, in addition to university-owned/on-campus housing fees, a book stipend and the standard AFROTC cadet stipend of $300 to $500 a month.

The scholarship is valued at approximately $250,000.
