Class of 2022: High school graduates, photos of top academic achievers in Alachua County, region

The time to throw caps and tassels high in the air is fast approaching for high school students who are eager to get back to traditional graduation ceremonies.

Approximately 1,700 students are expected to graduate this year from Alachua County's seven high schools between May 24 to 27, though the figures may change based on each student's state testing results.

To house all the students and families, some graduation ceremonies this year will include the University of Florida's Stephen C. O'Connell Center and the Curtis M. Phillips Center of Performing Arts.

"We are all looking forward to a normal graduation season, our first since 2019," said district spokeswoman Jackie Johnson. "After all they've been through and all their hard work, these students and their families certainly deserve the kind of ceremony most have been looking forward to for many, many years."

Schedule of commencements

P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School and private schools, like as Oak Hall and Cornerstone Academy, will have their graduations between May 20 and 27.

At Oak Hall, there will be 63 graduates expected to walk across the stage at UF's Phillips Center. P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School is expecting to have 115 students graduate this year.

Cornerstone Academy will have its smallest size with only two seniors in their graduating class.

Last year, the district followed CDC guidelines with COVID-19 requirements, with almost all having a mask requirement. Students were only allowed four graduation tickets for family members or friends and there were no live band performances.

This time around, due to low cases and vaccination efforts, masking and other COVID-19 requirements are relaxed.

The district has no COVID-19 restrictions in place for graduation, Johnson said, but that could change if a spike in the virus occurs. Students can now invite however many people they choose.
