Students take part in 23rd annual Hudson Valley Construction Career Day

SUFFERN - More than 700 students attended the 23rd annual Hudson Valley Construction Career Day, which took place Friday in the fieldhouse at Rockland Community College.

Students from grades 10 to 12 in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess and Orange counties took part in this year's event.

They had a chance to meet with business and labor leaders to learn about trade careers in the region, what role they might fill in those trades, and the advantages of a training apprenticeship in a well-paid industry.

Career preparation: Vocational education is now focused on college-bound students, not just the trades. What's in it for them?

They also took part in hands-on skill building demonstrations in such trades as welding, carpentry, soldering, jackhammering and confined space rescues, to name just a few.

The event is co-sponsored by the Construction Industry Council of Westchester and the Hudson Valley, the Building Contractors Association of Westchester and Mid-Hudson Inc., and the Construction Advancement Institute of Westchester and Mid-Hudson Inc.
