Students Splurging On Silk Sheets In Quest For ‘Pinterest Perfect’ Digs

It looks like students are edging away from the skanky stereotype of their low fee paying predecessors, opting to splurge extra cash on decor to create ‘Pinterest perfect rooms’ to flaunt on social media.

According to a poll commissioned by student halls search engine MyStudentHalls.com, 55 per cent of today’s undergraduates prefer to keep their halls spotless.

This is compared to just 15 per cent who prefer good old fashioned empty pizza box, fag-end-laden-beer-can squalor.

70 per cent of were up for spending extra cash on improvements, furnishing their rooms with personal fridges, table top ovens, TVs and silk sheets.

According to Jack Connors, sustainability projects officer at the University of London, undergraduates are proactive in the upkeep of their halls, voting on improvements and striving to make student living greener.

MyStudentHalls.com director, Dan Roberts said ‘With research showing that being tidy improves concentration levels and reduces stress – perhaps their tidy rooms are an antidote to the chaos of the deadlines, digital distractions and communal sharing of modern student living’.

With the scrapping of maintenance grants and increase in tuition fees, undergraduates are painfully aware they’ll be exiting higher education saddled with more debt than ever. Little wonder then, that they’re mindful of the way they treat their living space.
