The last time school settings were at the forefront of conversations; sadly, the main talking point was the horrific mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

With the dawn of the 2022-23 academic year rising this month at many schools across the nation, I can’t help but think about the 21 innocent lives lost on May 24, 2022.

It’s cliché to say, “our thoughts and prayers are with...” in the aftermath of these incidents.

I firmly believe in the power of prayer. I also firmly believe in the power of Holy Spirit-led action steps.

“Faith without deeds is dead.” – James 2:26 New International Version

But for now, I’ll skip the banter on gun control. Today, my “thoughts and prayers” are for the well-being of students, faculty, staff and bus drivers returning for a new school year.

Dear God, protect every student from pre-K through college. We thank you for providing safety from bullies, predators and assailants wishing to cause harm.

Ease their minds from any fears or stressors. Let them be sharp to comprehend and retain the knowledge of their classwork.

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” – Proverbs 18:15 English Standard Version

Father, pour down a blessing of strength for principals, deans, superintendents, teachers and assistants. Give them your holy wisdom to execute their job responsibilities.

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well.” – Romans 12:6-7 New Living Translation

Lift their spirits when they feel unappreciated for the sacrifices they make every day. Bless the financial needs of teachers as they are severely underpaid.

Lord, lest we forget the staffers. From the nurses and cafeteria personnel to bus drivers and crossing guards.

Continue to bless them in their acts of service for everyone at their respective schools, colleges and universities.

“In all the work you are doing, work the best you can. Work as if you were working for the Lord, not for men. Remember that you will receive your reward from the Lord, which he promised to his people. You are serving the Lord Christ.” – Colossians 3:23-24

Lord, we praise your name for the gifts you’ve bestowed upon all student-athletes and coaches. Thank you for letting their talents be a positive outlet and source of inspiration.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13 New King James Version

God, as classes resume across the nation, we thank you in advance for healthy bodies free from the coronavirus. Sanitize all rooms and purify lungs from inhaling any contaminants.

For all the glory and honor belongs to you. In the name of Jesus. Hallelujah and amen.
