Students can win up to $6,400 in scholarships during James Weldon Johnson Young Writers Festival

Students who enter the James Weldon Johnson Young Writers Festival to show off their writing, poetry, or playwriting skills could win up to $6,400 in cash or scholarships.

Registration for is now open. Jacksonville City Councilman Reggie Gaffney, Shannon Coon, and the Friends of the Brentwood Public Library will share more information about the James Weldon Johnson Young Writers Festival on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Main Library.

“Ms. Coon and her team is an exemplary example of supporting education, especially our youth’s education. Education is an important tool we all should find easily assessable through a variety of ways. And we want to thank and congratulate each student who participates in this lifelong learning opportunity,” Gaffney said in a news release.

Enrollment for the festival is open now through Friday. The festival takes place June 15-19.
