Studio City Teacher Nick Glover Dies From Coronavirus

STUDIO CITY, CA — A fourth grade teacher at Carpenter Community Charter School has died from coronavirus at age 53. Nicholas Glover, who had taught at the school for 17 years, passed away on January 8 after testing positive for the virus over winter break.

Principal Joe Martinez wrote a passionate letter to the school community, speaking to Glover's character and how much he was loved by students.

"Mr. Glover was more than a teacher at Carpenter," Martinez wrote. "He was an integral part of our school community. He was often times the voice of reason for the staff, provoking deeper thought and helping us to reflect thoroughly on decisions that impacted our school community. In addition, he always made a point of acknowledging others. In his classroom, he would take the time to build meaningful relationships with his students and their families. With our staff, he regularly acknowledged and congratulated his colleagues for their contributions. His wisdom (and his amazing sense of humor) will be missed by all."

Glover is survived by his children Andrew and Emma, along with his wife Susan. After the news of his passing, Carpenter Community Charter School offered multiple support options for students who may be struggling, or for parents looking for the words to help their children deal with the loss.

"The loss of Mr. Glover affects all of us in the Carpenter School family," he said. "Please know that the social, emotional, and physical well-being of all students and staff is our primary concern. This is an especially difficult time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Safe at Home Orders. Due to school closures and the inability to congregate (social distancing), this may be a particularly emotional time for the students who knew Mr. Glover as well as for those who have experienced recent trauma in their own lives.

A GoFundMe has been established to help the family through this difficult time.
