Superstar singer Taylor Swift and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce appear to have spent their New Year’s Eve at a historic restaurant overlooking Kansas City’s skyline.
Social media is packed with photos and videos of their big celebration, and the venue looks to be The American Restaurant atop Crown Center, at 200 E. 25th St. #400.

The restaurant’s iconic arched ceiling can be seen in the background of photos with Swift and Kelce, as well as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany.
Fans swooned over dozens of images of Swift and Kelce — especially a video of their New Year’s kiss.

“So wholesome,” wrote commenters on X, formerly Twitter. “I love seeing people in love.”
“I feel overwhelmed with happiness when watching this clip. My idol must be really happy.”
(It’s unclear whether Swift and Kelce danced to her 2017 song “New Year’s Day” that night, but it would certainly be fitting.)
The American opened in 1974 and has been remodeled several times over its history, though its key elements have remained mostly unchanged.
Warren Platner, who considered the restaurant his valentine to Kansas City, designed the 6,500-square-foot space with its three-story-high windows and white oak pillars that curve up to a rosette-covered ceiling. Brass accents bedeck the space.
In 2018, The American was named the James Beard Foundation’s Design Icon. “It became the conceptual parent of all the over-the-top top-of-the-building restaurants that followed,” the foundation said.
The American is now only open for private dining and events, like its Dia de Los Muertos celebration in November. Restaurant officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The “Shake It Off” singer is known for her extravagant New Year’s bashes in New York City. She ushered 2019 in with a star-studded costume party but waved COVID-filled 2020 goodbye by posting a photo of herself in a bear costume saying, “It’s been weird.”
And certainly, between the Eras Tour hype and newfound love with Kelce, Swift might say 2023 was similarly unexpected, but wonderful.
