Sturgis Chamber celebrates opening of Bee Kreative Studio

STURGIS — Bee Kreative Studio may have opened in Sturgis’ Maplecrest Plaza in April, but it’s opening was celebrated recently with Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Owner Amy Showalter cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of the shop Friday. She also shared some words about the business.

Showalter said the idea for a make-and-take art studio came about when her daughter, Karly Blair, was looking for an activity for her bachelorette party. The group made the trek to Lansing to do crafts together.

“When we left, I said, ‘Sturgis needs something like this,’” Showalter said, adding that her studio is for all ages and all abilities.

Patrons can come to the studio to create their projects, or they can take them home to complete them there, she said. There are classes at Bee Kreative Studio and, of course, parties.

“We do everything from glass fusion to mosaics to art canvas, watercolors, acrylics,” Showalter said. “We do wood projects. We do everything.”

Business partner Natasha Stahl offers crocheting. Showalter said she tries to offer something almost every night.

“I just feel very blessed,” Showalter said. “I feel very embraced by the community. I would like to thank everybody for that.”

Showalter also is looking for vendors for a holiday artisan market she plans to put on Nov. 12 at Wall Elementary School. That event will benefit Rooted of St. Joseph County, a nonprofit gap ministry, dedicated to helping ease the transitions into foster care, and helping the system succeed.
