Sturgis High School students to present ‘Alice in Wonderland’
Students at Sturgis High School will present “Alice in Wonderland” this week.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. April 28-30 in the SHS LGI room. Admission is by free-will donation.
Co-directors are SHS English teachers Amber Meert and Li Post. Post said the play is the traditional version of Lewis Carroll's “Alice in Wonderland.” Alice, a curious young girl, falls into a rabbit hole, where she learns to keep her temper and meets a lot of wacky, lovable characters, including the Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and Queen of Hearts, along the way, she said.
Post, who is directing a play for the first time, said students began reading through the scripts in February and rehearsing seriously in March.
“Students worked hard to bring their own twist to the characters, so it was fun to watch them develop their own silly styles of speaking and interacting with other characters,” she said. “From their first read-throughs, they were already testing out silly accents and making each other laugh, and they've come so far since then. I'm very proud of what they were able to do with it.”
