Sturgis Kiwanis announces students of month

STURGIS — The Sturgis Kiwanis Club recently honored the Sturgis High School Key Club November students of the month.

Lydia Boland, a senior, is the Key Club secretary. Boland is in her first year in Key Club, and is a member of the Sturgis High School orchestra, as well as the Trojan bowling team. Her future plans include going to college and becoming a dental hygienist.

Alexis Camacho Cardenas, a junior, is in his second year in the club. He is involved in machine shop and plans to attend college, but is undecided on a career path.

The students were invited to a recent Kiwanis luncheon where they were given a certificate in recognition of their service to Key Club, along with a $5 coffee shop certificate.

The Key Club recently volunteered at Camp Fort Hill, the Burr Oak Tool and Safety Town Halloween events, and Middle School and Eastwood Elementary School’s Halloween parties. Future events include the Sturgis Kiwanis and Elks club holiday boots and shoes event, food drive deliveries and Salvation Army Christmas bell ringing.

Key Club is a student-run club at Sturgis High School, sponsored by the Sturgis Noon Kiwanis Club. There are currently 94 student members.
