Sturgis Wind Symphony to present 'Classics'

“Classics” is the theme of the Sturgis Wind Symphony spring concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday at Sturges-Young Center for the Arts.

Admission is free to the family-friendly show.

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the wind symphony holiday concert was held, then COVID-19 caused another shutdown, canceling a show planned several months ago.

Now, the musicians, under the direction of R. Scott Davidson, are back at it.

Vocalist Lauren Davidson will be in the spotlight Sunday, and other numbers include symphonic arrangements of “Highlights from the Music Man,” “It Had to Be You,” “Second American Folk Rhapsody” and “The Rambler March.”

The group is still short by about 20 musicians compared to pre-pandemic numbers, Davidson said. Those interested in joining may learn more at www.facebook.com/SturgisWindSymphony or by calling Mary Beth Brenneman, (269) 651-8824; Jan Wiley, (269) 651-3558; or Scott Davidson, (269) 651-8984.
