Stutsman County Commission approves 2023 budget

Oct. 7—JAMESTOWN — The Stutsman County Commission unanimously approved its budget for 2023 on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The 2023 budget includes revenues of more than $30.4 million, which is an increase of more than $5.2 million from 2022, and expenditures of more than $29.7 million, a $3.2 million increase from 2022.

Significant revenue increases include $3 million in Prairie Dog funds, $100,000 in state aid and $415,000 in state highway aid, said Jessica Alonge, Stutsman County auditor/chief operating officer.

Significant expenditure increases include about $848,800 in total payroll costs including salaries and benefits to eligible employees, $247,000 in capital asset purchases, $233,000 in maintenance and repairs, $354,000 in service contracts and about $120,700 in operating expenses.

The Stutsman County Commission also unanimously approved the certification of the 2022 property tax levies.

The total mill levy increased by 0.87 mill in 2022 from 73.94 mills to 74.81 mills.

The value of a mill increased about $4,600 from 2021 to 2022. The value of a mill for 2022 is $136,151.

The tax implication of the 2022 mill rate on a home valued at $150,000 increased $5.87 from the previous year.
