Annual best-dressed lists often make little sense. That's because a whole lot of backroom politicking and planning go into them. So Esquire is once again asking you, dear reader, to decide upon our Best-Dressed Man of the Year. Last week, Sebastian Stan claimed victory over David Beckham in the knockouts. So, it's onto the first of the quarter finals: Tom Holland vs. Harry Styles.

On the tail end of teen years, finding your sense of self is hard. Trickier still is the quest of finding your own style. And yet, while we brawled with skinny jeans and T-shirts of bands that, thankfully, are on permanent hiatus, Very Famous Young Men have already perfected their signature.

Yes, they've got stylists. And yes, they have the crushing pressures of modern celebritydom. But in an age of ultimate homogeneity, this week's contenders - Tom Holland and Harry Styles - have both carved their own wardrobe niche.

For the former, it's foolproof high-low tailoring that works time and again. So that means a big glass of merlot at the Spider-Man: Homecoming premiere (dressed down with a crewneck jumper) and tailored trousers often rejigged with pyjama shirts up-top.

But if Holland cuts with safety scissors, Styles keeps his wardrobe on a knife edge with stuff that takes big bets that play out handsomely. Whether that's a pearl earring for the Met Gala, Thirties-inspired Bovidae-emblazoned knitwear or a landmark Gucci campaign in a local chippy, the former Directioneer is often without a roadmap.

So, who wins? The classic 2.0 of young Hollywood, or the heroics of a modern pop Mick Jagger?
