The Columbus Council approved a rezoning request to create a residential subdivision on around 61 acres of land on Macon Road at a meeting on May 23.

Ray M. Wright, Inc., a family-owned company, is planning to build the subdivision on the undeveloped land where Macon Road becomes Highway 80 past Pratt & Whitney into Midland. The Columbus Council voted to adopt the ordinance unanimously.

There will be six commercial parcels and 115 potential residential parcels on the land, Austin Gibson, an attorney representing Ray M. Wright, told the planning advisory committee in an April meeting.

The company has worked on other Columbus developments including Midland Commons, Riegel Pointe, Kendall Creek. Ray M. Wright has also developed portions of Garrett Creek and Garrett Pines, Gibson said, which are near where the proposed development is located.
