Subway, the submarine sandwich chain, is making major changes to its menu and order style for the first time in its nearly 60-year history.

The chain introduced a dozen new sandwiches that are a combination of Subway's meat, cheese, vegetables, and sauce ingredients on signature freshly baked bread.

Its new line, called the Subway Series, also moves away from the chain's long-standing model ordering of build-your-own sandwiches.

With its new Subway Series line, instead of customizing your sub sandwich, you order the new sandwiches by name or number. For example, you can say "I'll take the No. 8" –- the Great Garlic with rotisserie-style chicken, bacon, provolone cheese, tomatoes, onions and a creamy garlic sauce on a toasted artisan Italian bread.

The Subway Series features cheesesteaks, Italianos, chicken and club sandwiches, all with a variety of toppings on Subway bread. There are three sandwiches in each category with names such as the Outlaw, the Philly and the Boss.

Though, not to worry, you can still customize your sandwich or order one of the Subway classics like the Italian B.M.T.

The new menu items have been in the works since last summer as the chain introduced "Eat Fresh Refresh," offering more than 20 "new and refreshed" ingredients to its menu, according to a news release. For more than a year, Subway's culinary team worked on creating the new sandwiches.

“The Subway Series is the most ambitious undertaking in company history, as we are changing the nearly 60-year-old blueprint that helped make Subway a global phenomenon,” said Trevor Haynes, President, North America at Subway in a news release.

You can try a new, 6-inch sub from its Subway Series for free from 10 a.m. to noon on July 12 at participating locations. The chain expects to offer up to 1 million free sandwiches across stores nationwide.
