Subway surfer: Video shows man riding on top of moving MBTA train
New video sent to Boston 25 News appears to show a man riding the MBTA’s Red Line Friday — from the outside.
The video appears to show a man standing on top of a moving Red Line train as it passed over the Neponsent River Bridge in Dorchester Friday. After standing upright for a few moments, the man appears to begin clambering down in between two train cars.
“I have never seen that. You see it in the movies when they are on top of the train,” says Tahmassebi
Except this wasn’t an action flick with stunt doubles. Tahmassebi worried about his safety.
“The T goes over the bridge and then there is just like all this space under so he could have fallen and died immediately,” says Tahmassebi.
“It is crazy. I don’t know why they do it,” says Vinny Cordoso, a MBTA rider.
Cardoso says he’s seen kids walking on top of trains going toward Quincy Center and thinks they do it for attention on social media.
“You know how they do Tick Tok and stuff for clout; it is like trending so they will do stuff like that. It is not smart at all,” says Cordoso.
The MBTA released a statement reading in part “The MBTA takes the safety of its passengers and employees very seriously. Standing on top of a moving train is extremely dangerous and illegal. It can result in serious injury or death. We urge everyone who sees someone standing on top of a train to call 911 immediately.”
“We’re already having problems with the trains never mind you surfing on them,” says Cordoso.
“Maybe he is going through something. Do you think he would do that for fun? “says Abby, a MBTA rider.
An MBTA spokesperson told Boston 25 News that the ‘T’ is aware of the video and transit police are investigating.
“The MBTA takes the safety of its passengers and employees very seriously. Standing on top of a moving train is extremely dangerous and illegal,” the MBTA said in a statement. “It can result in serious injury or death. We urge anyone who sees someone standing on top of a train to call 911 immediately. We also remind all passengers to stay clear of the tracks and to follow all posted safety instructions.”
