Success of Hops & Vines for Hunger celebrated at Yuengling in Pottsville

Dec. 28—Representatives of breweries and wineries recently announced the results of the second annual Hops & Vines for Hunger campaign at Yuengling Brewery, Museum and Gift Shop in Pottsville.

Together, 47 breweries and wineries raised $19,325 for hunger relief and nutrition education.

The funds will be distributed to Feeding Pennsylvania's nine member food banks across the state and PA Eats' nutrition education programs.

"We are so grateful to all the participating breweries and wineries for their incredible fundraising efforts," Jane Clements, Feeding Pennsylvania's chief executive officer, was quoted in a news release. "Their contributions will help ensure that no one goes without food, especially during the holiday season."

Paul Capelli, D. G. Yuengling & Son Inc. communications director, said that Feeding Pennsylvania did a great job in bringing together the Pennsylvania beverage community for the campaign.

"Yuengling donated 10% of sales from a special selection of holiday gift items online and at the Yuengling gift shop," Capelli said.

The items included the 2022 Yuengling Christmas ornament, sweaters and other holiday-themed items.

"The campaign was a creative way to draw attention to an important issue — helping feed those in need in our home state during the holiday season and throughout the year," Capelli said.

Elizabeth Archer, PA Eats executive director, said the promotion will help fight hunger and teach families facing food insecurity how to make nutritious meals with the food they receive.

Participants held special events throughout November to raise funds for the campaign.

Matt Kozar, co-owner of Breweries in PA, supported the initiative.

"We 100 percent support this mission," he said. "We're happy to help raise money for hunger relief while supporting Pennsylvania craft breweries."

Many of the participating organizations gathered in the Yuengling Tasting Room for a holiday beverage to celebrate the success of the campaign.
